PRAYERS OF GOD’S PEOPLE for April 5, 2020
Turning our hearts to God who is gracious and merciful, we pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need.
God of mercy, our Lenten journey this year has been different than we could ever have imagined when it began on Ash Wednesday. As we shelter-in-place, as we feel helpless and anxious about the future, as we hear of the death that this virus is causing, remind us that you have defeated death through the death and resurrection of your Son. Help us to turn to you in prayer and to give what we can to help a world that is hurting. Let us pray … have mercy, O God.
God of mercy, awaken your church to new proclamations of your faithfulness. By your Spirit, give us bold and generous words to speak, that we may sustain the weary with the message of your love. Let us pray … have mercy, O God.
God of mercy, drive away the fear and anger that cause us to turn against one another. Give courage to leaders who seek liberation for the oppressed and health for the sick. Give strength and hope to all doctors, nurses, first responders, and other medical personnel, as well as all other essential workers, who are putting themselves at significant risk for the sake of others. And pour your healing grace upon the residents, staff and families of the Orinda Convalescent Care Center after 27 of them tested positive for the virus earlier this week. Protect them, O God. Let us pray … have mercy, O God.
God of mercy, we pray for those who are working to develop and test a vaccine for COVID-19. Prosper the work of their hands, dear Lord. Keep them safe in your care. Let us pray … have mercy, O God.
Into your hands, O God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
