Prayers of God’s People — May 17, 2020

Gathered together as the people of God in Christ Jesus, we pray for ourselves, for our community, and for our world using the prayer refrain Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer:

Holy God, Your love is patient. We give you thanks for all those who have been patient with us, and have taught and cared for us; and we pray for the patience to love others as you have loved us.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Gracious Teacher, Your love is kind. Give us the courage to be kind to others … even those whom we find to be unkind, those we number among our enemies and those who are difficult to love. For they are your children and they were made in your image.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Guiding Spirit, Your love does not seek its own interests. We thank you and pray for those who serve the poor and those in need, who give tirelessly of themselves and who have much to do and little time for themselves.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

Triune God, Your love bears all things. We remember before you today those with heavy burdens, with many cares and little comfort, with much stress and little help … including those who we name in our own hearts even now. (Pause for silence.) Open our eyes to the needs of those around us and grant us the wisdom to see how we may offer help.

Lord, in your mercy… hear our prayer.

For we ask these things in the name of the One who taught us all to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
