Orinda Mandarin Chinese Language Program PDF Print E-mail


The Orinda Mandarin Chinese Language program is a non-profit program which started in January, 2006. The program is modeled after the highly acclaimed Piedmont Language Program. Over 70 students are now enrolled in classes from grades kindergarten through eighth.


orinda chinese mandarin language programStudies uniformly support that a child has a limited window of opportunity for easily and proficiently acquiring additional languages; the “window “ shuts in middle school, limiting the ease and likelihood of acquiring proficiency or fluency in a foreign language. Specifically, they are capable of developing the intonation and pronunciation of native speakers. So, if you’re interested in exposing your child to a foreign language, now is the time to act!

The mission of the Orinda Mandarin Chinese Program is to promote the acquisition of Mandarin language through a rigorous but enjoyable curriculum, providing our students with the ability to speak, read, and write in Chinese.

  • Intro to Mandarin (Kindergarten)
  • Beginning Mandarin (1st grade)
  • Mandarin I (Beginning class for 2nd - 5th grades)
  • Mandarin II (2nd grade)
  • Mandarin III (3rd grade)
  • Mandarin IV (4th grade)
  • Mandarin V (5th grade)
  • Mandarin VI (6th & 7th grades)
  • Conversational Mandarin (Students have completed Ni Hao Book 1)
Classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons at Holy Shepherd Lutheran church at 433 Moraga Way, Orinda, CA 94563
