About Lamorinda Adult Respite Center (LARC)

LARC is a licensed, supervised adult day care center that serves older adults with memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. The Center opened in 1997 and became licensed as an Adult Day Program January 2007. LARC supports families seeking to help a loved one remain happy, active, safe and living at home for as long as possible.

The Center’s paid staff and its caring trained staff of volunteers work to promote the highest level of supervised activities to foster dignity and self-worth in the participants. By understanding the changing needs of each participant, they help the participant enjoy each day. In order to maintain the highest skill level and stay abreast of current “best practices,” the staff and volunteers receive ongoing training and education.

The center serves 8 clients per day, and maintains a waiting list due to space limitations. The center has successfully met the needs of cognitively impaired participants by providing a warm, safe, supportive and interactive environment to engage peer interaction and maximization of skills for the participant while providing caregivers much needed respite, support groups and guidance. Open five days a week, the Center welcomes all families regardless of their ability to pay and since the program’s inception in 1997 has served over 67 families to date.

To further assist families, LARC sponsors a caregiver support group that is held twice a month with approximately 150 people attending throughout the year. Information and help with referrals are provided to families regarding community resources and care issues.
